Wayward Bus 2020 – See Australia Slow!

We’re bringing the Wayward Bus back, anticipating a start on 1st October 2020, with a series of 4 one-way road trips – together creating a continual touring circuit around S-E Australia.  The Wayward way of travel is open-ages, small-groups, affordable and respectful.

Alternating between coast and inland, these rides are thought out with the home market in mind – there’s more time, more walks, more quirky stuff and more quintessential Aussie towns along the way.

  • 1st to 6th of the month – Noosa/Brisbane/Byron to Sydney in 6 days via Coast
  • 8th to 13th of the month – Sydney to Melbourne in 6 days via Inland
  • 15th to 20th of the month – Melbourne to Adelaide in 6 days via Coast
  • 22nd to 30th of the month – Adelaide to Byron/Brisbane/Noosa in 9 days via Broken Hill and Outback NSW

Australia’s original Wayward Bus ran from 1990 to the late 2000s and was a favourite with independent travellers of all ages and nations. Wayward enjoyed a great rap from Lonely Planet guidebooks and won a bunch of trophies including the 1997 Australia Tourism Award for Tour & Transport (Major).

However, through merging with backpacker-focused competitors and subsequent takeover by travel industry giants, the special Wayward ethos was lost and the brand ‘rationalised’.

Over a decade has passed and Wayward Bus 2020 is resurrecting independently with original founder Ralph Jackson, Arcadia Travel Noosa and touring mini-coaches from Bandicoot Tours.

These trips are subject to settling in as we get them on the road – minor adjustments may be made.
